Prior to finding WRTP | BIG STEP, Quincy Clark worked in customer service for about 20 years, performing a multitude of duties: sales, marketing, hospitality, and even selling insurance. Once the pandemic hit, however, the customer service industry took a huge blow. Quincy stumbled in to WRTP | BIG STEP by way of a case manager at a local job center. The case manager told Quincy about electrical apprenticeships and referred him to WRTP | BIG STEP when he expressed interest.

While working with WRTP | BIG STEP, Quincy took part in the MC3 Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Heat tended career fairs and training tours, and he spoke with some tradespeople. The experience really opened his eyes to the building trades. Upon meeting the representative for the local Bricklayers, Quincy was impressed by their helpfulness and hospitality. While working at a Madison Metro Transitstation, the employees went out of their way to talk to Quincy and other members of the program.Quincy discovered that he is still able to use his customer service skills in his new field—he enjoys being personable, helpful, and letting his personality shine.

Quincy wants to let others know to keep an open mind. He says,“If you come with your mind made up and refuse to try new things, you may never find the right fit. “He came to WRTP | BIG STEP to be an electrician, but he’s now proud to say that he’s a Tile Setter. He also reminds others to ask questions and take advantage of opportunities—because there will be a lot.

“If you come with your mind made up and refuse to try new things, you may never find the right fit.”
