After graduating from high school, Megan Lamke decided to pursue a nursing degree and worked full-time as a CNA. As rewarding as the job was, Megan became burnt out and began to consider a career change.
An acquaintance suggested that Megan reach out to BIG STEP, where she was offered a class to learn about a career in the trades. That course opened her eyes to steamfitting, and she decided that was the career for her. BIG STEP assisted her with the tests and requirements she needed to fulfill to be considered a pre-apprentice.
Two and a half years later, Megan is now a first-year, second-semester apprentice, and she loves what sheās learning.Though itās hard work, she believes itās worth it. Megan encourages anyone interested in a career in the trades to ask a lot of questions, be patient, and never give up.
“If this is what you want, you’ll do anything to succeed.”
