The BIG STEP Builders program provides high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to build basic construction skills and explore the industry. This program offers:
🛠 Hands-on learning
👷 Presentations from union members
📝 Application assistance
🤝 Employer networking
This program takes place on weekends to work around students’ busy schedules. The only requirements are an interest in apprenticeships and a commitment to attend four Saturday sessions.

WRTP / BIG STEP’s Amy and Annie from our Northern Wisconsin team attended the Fort McCoy Challenge Academy career fair on September 17. They spoke to 230 cadets about careers in the skilled trades and our services and programs.

In October, our MMSD Water and Sewer focused ELCS class had the chance to tour the Jones Island wastewater facility. Students heard from Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District - MMSD employees and explored the processes in person.
This is the type of hands-on and real-life exploration our students experience.

WRTP / BIG STEP is offering additional dates for orientation and ACCUPLACER testing. You’ll get an overview of our trainings and programs, assessment of individual needs and strengths, as well as testing, tutoring, and other employment prep.
