WRTP | BIG STEP Success Series: Robert Artley and Zacharias Smith's Success Story

Robert Artley and Zacharias Smith have similar stories: Both came to WRTP | BIG STEP as veterans after falling on hard times, and both found themselves job-hopping with little success, lacking confidence, and looking for support that could lead them back to family-supporting careers.

They got the support they needed when the Center for Veterans Issues (CVI) referred them separately to WRTP | BIG STEP’s ELMS program. Each decided that the course was right for him after attending an information session, and the CVI secured funding for their training through the Homeless Veterans Re-Integration Program.

From the day Robert and Zacharias began their ELMS training, they were determined to succeed. Every day, they showed up early, participated, worked hard to get ahead, and even went above and beyond as the only two students to earn their OSHA 30 certifications. Because they were so focused, Robert and Zacharias were offered the opportunity to get MSSC certifications in Green Industrial Manufacturing as well.

When they finished their training with WRTP | BIG STEP, they each received interviews with four different companies and at least two job offers. Robert now works with Snap On Tools as a Utility Operator in Shipping and Receiving, while Zacharias is a Screw Machine Operator with Herker Industries. Both of these hard-earned positions include benefits and wage increases.
